Women's Rights & Reproductive Freedom
When it comes to reproductive freedoms, today’s Republican party is just too extreme. They need to be reminded that a woman’s health care decisions belong between her and her doctor.
Women’s safety and reproductive freedom are at a crisis point in American history. Under extremist members of Congress like my opponent, Nancy Mace, women are under attack by government intrusion and a lack of legal protections.
The people's health and safety are crucial to our community's well-being. This is unattainable without comprehensive, accessible reproductive healthcare ensuring that all individuals can make informed decisions regarding their health. I am prepared to put the needs of constituents over those of any party and defend the reproductive rights that the Lowcountry deserves.
Under our current representative, Nancy Mace, this is clearly not happening. Mace co-sponsored a bill that threatened to outlaw IVF, voted in favor of a fetal heartbeat bill while in the SC state legislature, voted against the Violence Against Women Act, and voted against the codification of Roe v. Wade. It is impossible to call yourself “pro-woman” while fighting against legislation that could protect women’s safety, bodies, and overall independence.
Unlike Nancy Mace, I plan to work with Congressmen on both sides of the aisle to enact equitable reproductive rights policy that serves the needs of our constituents. That’s why I am prepared to support the following in Congress:
Reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act
Codifying Roe v. Wade
The Women’s Health Protection Act
The Right to Contraception Act
Enacting the Equal Rights Act
Every individual in the Lowcountry deserves the right to make decisions about their own body. No one should ever have to worry about government overreaches inviting politicians into the room with them and their doctor. I believe that reproductive rights are fundamental to personal freedom and public health, and I look forward to championing women’s equality, safety, and bodily autonomy in Congress.
